SHAWN MACKEY is one of western Canada’s most exciting up and coming artists. Shawn was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in 1984. He currently lives and works in Edmonton.

Shawn’s passion for art became apparent from the first time he picked up a pen and drew all over the walls at his childhood home in Beaumont, Alberta. However, foregoing his love for art in 2002, Shawn entered the University of Alberta (U of A) in Political Science and Economics, aspiring to a career in Law. After taking a summer art course, Shawn re-evaluated his career aspirations and entered the Art and Design program at the U of A. 

While attending the U of A, Shawn studied painting, sculpture, and drawing from 2003 to 2007, and received his Bachelors of Fine Arts in Art and Design. Shawn experienced and explored a wide variety of styles that ranged from abstract to conceptual. In his current artwork, Van Gogh, Munch, Auerbach and Canadian painter Tom Thompson all influence Shawn's unique creative vision.
